About the Club

The Club

Leicester Cobras were formed on the 3rd March 1992 by a group of disabled friends wishing to play wheelchair basketball. Since then the club has become a Registered Charity, grown in numbers, strength, skills and expertise, with members from age 12 upwards. Membership is open to anyone – junior (12 to under 19 years old for Junior League – the age limit for Nation League matches is 14+), adult, male or female, disabled or able-bodied players.

The Cobras are the leading wheelchair basketball league club in Leicestershire and competes in the British Wheelchair Basketball (BWB) National League. The Leicester Cobras are working with other organisations to develop opportunities across Leicestershire.

League Matches

League matches for the Leicester Cobras are played at weekends between September and May, with home games being played at the new Leicester Community Sports Arena, 31 Charter Street, Leicester LE1 3UD. The dates of the matches can be found on the Fixtures & Results page.

What training is covered in the sessions:

This session is designed to improve the individual skills of every player at the club. We work on chair skills, ball / dribbling skills, and passing skills. These are vital to learn and then to continue developing whether a player is new to the sport or plays at the very highest level.

 Fees

Regular training sessions are very important for players to develop their own skills and for the club to develop the teams as a whole. The Leicester Cobras provide a variety of training sessions for the players. All players have to pay membership fees; these fees are £25 per month for adults (over 19) and £22 per month for juniors (under 19) if paid by Standing Order. These fees must be paid even if you’re not able to attend training sessions as the club still has to pay for court hire costs.

Future Targets

To continue the development of wheelchair basketball and to bring the sport of wheelchair basketball to as wide a group of people as possible.

For the 2016/17 season the Leicester Cobras will be entering four teams in the BWB’s national leagues. These teams are:
Leicester Cobras-1 in the 2nd Division South
Leicester Cobras-2 in the 3rd Division South and East
Leicester Cobras Juniors in the Under 19’s National Junior League
Leicester Cobras Ladies in the 2nd Division Women’s League.
